Help GVI and the Seychelles National Parks Authority to reduce their impact on the environment and create a model environmentally sound research base with the installation of a solar energy system.

Curieuse Island is the fifth largest of the inner granitic islands in the Seychelles, and a designated national park. Our research team are responsible for collecting critical biological and physical data on coral reefs, Coco de mer Palms, and turtles on and around the Island. In line with our work and the pristine environment in which we are based, it is important to reduce our impact on the area. In addition unreliable electricity sources inhibit our ability to carry out our critical research

Installation of a solar power system at Curieuse will provide 24 hour electricity hugely increasing the productivity of the research centre. The system will save 2392 kg of CO2 entering the atmosphere annually hugely reducing our impact on the area.

We will continue with biological monitoring on and around Curieuse Island. The solar system will enable staff and volunteers to collect and analyze increased amounts of data, and will serve as a working model for local NGO’s and government bodies.
