It’s been a tough year for our little school in the township, yet every single day more than 160 children still arrive with the biggest smiles on their faces. This year is extra special for us because, for the very first time, our Grade 7 learners will graduate and head off to high school. It feels like just yesterday they were tiny Grade R children taking their first steps into our classrooms. Ten years later, here they are, ready for the next chapter.
To celebrate their hard work, their joy and their resilience, we want to give every child a fun and educational gift to take home. We’re thinking games, puzzles, creative toys and activities that spark learning and laughter. Something they can treasure. Something they deserve.
We have Santa ready, the elves excited to wrap every present, and even a festive meal donated for the occasion. All we need now is your help to make the magic happen.
This December, we want to create a little magic for the 160 children at our township school. With Santa already polishing his boots and Horn and Phillips generously donating a meal for every child, all we’re missing are the gifts. Our plan is simple: give each child a fun, educational present they can enjoy during the holidays and remember long after the wrapping paper has been recycled. With Santa’s little helpers ready to wrap and set up the big surprise, we’re hoping to raise 16,500 ZAR (around £730) to make it all happen.
For many of our children, life at home can be challenging. Finances are tight. Resources are limited. Treats and toys are rare. Yet these children show up every morning, bright and eager, ready to learn. This year has been especially difficult for families, but the children keep smiling and trying their best. Without support, most of them won’t receive a holiday gift at all — and we don’t want a single child to feel left out or forgotten.
We want to end the year with joy, colour and celebration. Our plan is to purchase fun, educational gifts for each of our 160 students — things like puzzles, activity packs, books, games and creative toys that encourage learning through play. Volunteers will wrap the gifts, Santa will hand them out, and the children will enjoy a warm meal thanks to our generous local catering partners. All we need to do is raise the gift budget so every child receives something special.
This simple gesture will make a huge difference. For some children, it may be the only gift they receive this year. For our very first group of Grade 7 graduates, it will be a beautiful send-off as they step into high school. The celebration will create memories, boost confidence and show every child that they are valued and loved. It will bring our community together and remind the children — and us — why their joy is worth fighting for.
