The most notable event for this quarter at Cap Ternay, Seychelles was the ‘Tour De Ternay’ that saw the participation of all the volunteers and staff in a day of exciting challenges and games. The day consisted of teams hiking up to the top of Matoopa (our local mountain), snorkelling to a secret beach and kayaking around the coastline, with games in-between to win back time. Fancy dress was encouraged, where teams really got in touch with their creative side (most costumes were unidentifiable at the end of the first challenge). 16 volunteers participated, making 5 groups including a staff team.
The day was a tough one, both mentally and physically, but team work prevailed. The volunteers had a fantastic day, grateful that the event had been held and pleased with the money they had raised. The event cost nothing to arrange thanks to the generous lending of kayaks from the Marine Conservation Society of Seychelles (MCSS), Sustainability for Seychelles (S4S) and the Port Glaude Community Club. Winners were awarded a chocolate bar as well as a GVI branded T-shirt which was awarded during an evening BBQ to end the day.
Overall, a total of 1400GBP was raised for the Presidents Village that will contribute to the maintenance of their compound. The success of this event leaves hope that it can be replicated next year and hopefully grow in popularity and support.
Thank you for your continued support!
